Expertise
Mr John Swan completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne and subsequently undertook his orthopaedic training in Victoria. He is a fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. After completing his fellowship, John was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at both Box Hill Hospital and the Northern Hospital for a number of years and was actively involved in managing elective upper and lower limb conditions and orthopaedic trauma.
He then undertook further fellowship training in shoulder and knee sports injuries and joint replacements at the Clinique Des Cedres, Grenoble France, with Dr Johannes Barth. This was followed by a clinical fellowship at L’Hopital de la Croix Rousse, Lyon France with Professor Sebastien Lustig, where he gained further experiencing in arthroscopic, robotic-assisted surgery and complex revision surgery of the shoulder and lower limbs.
After returning to Australia, John has further gained training and experience in anterior minimally invasive hip replacement surgery and is confident performing primary and revision hip replacement surgeries. John has extensive experience in orthopaedic training supervision of registrars and international fellows and has completed a Master of Surgery by Research at the University of Melbourne and was the recipient of multiple research scholarships. He has authored over 35 original research publications and has written 6 book chapters on shoulder and knee surgery. His research experience enables John to ensure his patients are always provided with the most current information and treatment for their conditions.
